Students from every school in the district can now take advantage of advanced CTE programming at James Reese CTC near Richmond. This center was specifically built to meet growing demand.
This program serves the children of FBISD employees, first responders and active U.S. military personnel and offers them free tuition and uniforms.
Career and Technical Education
Skyward FBISD provides its students with opportunities for participation in a range of Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs that will prepare them for both college and a career after high school. These include Architecture and Design, Agriculture and Natural Resources, Business and Industry, Engineering and Technology, Health Occupations, Information Technology, STEM (Science Math Engineering Technology ), Culinary Arts Arts Audio/Video Technologies Communications Industrial Technologies Skills USA as well as Law and Public Safety. Students also have the chance to achieve industry certifications and dual credit in numerous Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs of study at James Reese Career and Technical Education Center – providing access for eleven FBISD high schools to advanced CTE programs. Students participate in this program for part of their school day, driving or using district-provided bus transportation from their respective campuses. Once there, students operate Enterprise Learning Labs that serve the community – giving them hands-on experience that goes far beyond coursework alone. Furthermore, many also join clubs like HOSA or DECA.
Whole Child Health Initiative
Health is essential to student achievement. Students learn best when they feel safe, healthy and engaged with their learning environment. FBISD offers services designed to promote physical, behavioral and emotional well-being for our entire child population.
Student’s spend nearly eight hours of each day at school, making it the ideal environment to adopt and practice healthy behaviors. Our school-based health education programs enable children to form lifelong healthy habits that will support their overall wellbeing throughout their lives.
As part of its effort to provide additional resources for school health and wellness programs, the FBISD SHAC has created the Virtual Healthy Schools (VHS). This collection contains health and wellness program information and resources on implementing the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child model in school settings.
Student Recruitment
FBISD offers students aged 6-18 who fail their eye exam free glasses through its See to Succeed program, with more details being sent directly to campus principals in March.
FBISD and Caissa Public Strategy have joined forces to recruit students who had left for charter schools back into FBISD through direct phone calls and grassroots canvassing field teams.
Additionally, the District’s Community Relations Team engages local communities and businesses, spreading word of innovative programs offered by the District as well as its partnerships with higher education institutions that seek to attract high-quality, diverse students.
The District offers summer learning programs designed to advance teachers and staff knowledge and abilities. Teachers and professional staff interested in participating should attend “Virtual Connections” sessions held during June and July; these provide teaching candidates a great way to connect with campus leaders virtually.
Extended Day Program
Fort Bend Independent School District’s mission is to inspire and equip its students to explore a future beyond what they could ever envision, by providing programs to meet all students’ individual interests and career aspirations goals.
To meet this goal, the District has entered into an agreement with a Houston nonprofit to offer full-day prekindergarten classes at three sites: Ridgemont Early Childhood Center, Hunters Glen Elementary School and its education complex. Students meeting federal poverty standards can enroll.
FBISD has reopened 13 Learning Centers at elementary schools to serve children of District staff, first responders and essential workers as well as active U.S. military personnel during the COVID-19 pandemic. Families interested in attending must register through EZChildTrack; daily costs are $10 or $140 monthly pass with each day or session including snack and lunch for $10 per child/per day or for full day sessions which offer snacks as well.
