Lil Durk shared his deep sorrow upon learning of King Von’s passing by dedicating a post and remembering their close friendship, calling King Von his “baby bro.” They had shared many memories together and would often visit one another’s homes together.
Dayvon Daquan Bennett, better known by his professional moniker of King Von, originally hailing from Parkway Gardens in Chicago’s O Block before moving to Atlanta when his music career took off. Unfortunately he passed away while 26.
His life story
King Von was an influential rapper who could capture the emotion of his audience through music. His bold lyrics touched many lives, encouraging them to live life fearlessly. His untimely passing on November 6th 2020 was an immense loss for family, friends, and the hip hop community as a whole.
His life was marked by violence and gang membership was never far behind. A part of Chicago’s South Side Black Disciples gang, he often mentioned them in his songs and signed to Lil Durk’s Only the Family label and released two mixtapes in 2019: Grandson Vol. 1 and Levon James.
Von’s projects brought out his storytelling strengths as he explored narratives rarely seen in hip hop. On tracks such as “Why He Told,” where he vented his anger towards someone he perceived to have turned snitch, Von revealed himself more personally in ways that made him relatable and humanized him further.

His death
King Von was shot and killed at 26 by gunfire outside an Atlanta club. Although just starting his career, his music resonated with audiences and inspired a whole host of artists – an unfathomable tragedy indeed.
Lil Durk quickly recognized his storytelling ability and signed him to his Only the Family label, making Grandson Vol 1 available later that year; its viral single Crazy Story attracted widespread notice.
King Von is best known for his solo work; however, he also collaborated with Lil Durk, Polo G and G Herba on their respective albums. His music was raw and authentic – much to the delight of his fans who appreciated its authenticity. Although his death is tragic, his legacy lives on through his music that remains. This tragic loss highlights both violence in the streets as well as community support – an invaluable lesson from which we should all take a lesson.

King Von’s music and legacy stand as an ode to authenticity and storytelling in hip-hop music. His original lyrics and captivating voice touched fans and fellow artists alike, and posthumous releases have only cemented his legacy further within the industry.

With its raw authenticity and captivating narratives, “Crazy Story” catapulted Lil Durk to national stardom within minutes. His raw authenticity captivated listeners like no other rapper could.
King Von’s estate and OTF/EMPIRE released his second posthumous album, Grandson, on July 14th. This project includes collaborations from Lil Durk, Polo G, BreezyLYN, G Herbo, Hotboii and Moneybagg Yo and can be streamed on iTunes, Spotify or other streaming services.
